Combo paks are genuine value — cheaper than the pieces bought separately, with the guesswork about what goes with what already removed. The mistake is buying one as a first order.

On a first order a bundle almost guarantees that something in the box goes unused, and worse, it makes the result unreadable: start five products in one week, feel better, and you have no idea which one earned its place. You will then keep paying for all five. Buy a bundle in month three, when you know what you are bundling.

The programs — Clean 9 and the F15 range — are the one case where the bundle is the product. You are not buying an assortment there, you are buying nine or fifteen days of structure with everything the plan needs already in the box, and buying the pieces separately would defeat the point.

Clean 9 first if you are going that route, and not both programs at once. F15 assumes you have already done the nine days.

Read the contents and ask an honest question of each item: would I have bought this on its own? If the answer is no for more than one or two things, the discount is not real for you — a saving on something you will not use is not a saving.

The bundles that work best for our customers are the ones built around products they already reorder. If the drinking gel and the toothgel are already habits, a pak containing both plus something new is a sensible way to try the new thing at a discount. That is a different transaction from buying a box of unknowns.

Do the arithmetic on the items you would actually use rather than on the sticker saving. A pak of six that saves twenty per cent is only a good deal if you wanted at least four of the six; below that you have paid full price for what you wanted and taken the rest as ballast. Our own numbers say the products that carry this shop are bought singly and repeatedly — Aloe Lips, the toothgel, the drinking gel — not acquired in boxes.

There is one situation where a pak is a straightforwardly good first purchase, and it is not for you. As a gift, a bundle solves the exact problem that makes it a poor first order for a customer: you are not running a test, you are not trying to isolate a result, and variety is the point rather than the obstacle.

For that, pick a pak weighted towards the personal-care items — the toothgel, the lip balm, the Gelly. They are the products with the widest appeal in our order history, they need no explanation or protocol, and nothing in them requires the recipient to commit to a routine to get the use of it.
